Smith Looks To Rally Back At Concord Speedway
Mooresville, NC | November 5, 2015 -
Crooks Racing will head back to the Tri-oval of Concord Speedway this weekend for the North South Shootout. The 3-day event (November 5th – 7th) begins today with practice, qualifying Friday, and racing Saturday afternoon at 2 pm. There is a high probability of rain in the forecast for Saturday. If Saturday’s racing action is called due to rain, they will race on Sunday, November 8th. Zane picked up a win there back in May.
The North South Shootout will be considered a PASS South even for the SLM division. Zane Smith will head into the event 14 points behind leader Tate Fogleman. Smith has nearly held the PASS South points lead all season, with a 100+ points lead heading into the last race at Greenville-Pickens Speedway. The no. 77 Pro Am Racing Products machine was in the lead coming to the checkered, battling lapped traffic when Doiron made contact for the pass coming off of turn 4. Smith and eventual race winner, Joey Doiron, made contact at the line. Smith was hit hard with penalties after the incident, in which he was docked an accumulation of 150 pts, including a monetary fine, setting Zane back to second in points. It will be a tight point’s battle in these final two PASS South races, with Jody Measemer and Matthew Craig tied in 3rd, one point behind Smith.
Zane has been exceptionally strong in his rookie season with the PASS South Series. He has 3 wins (Concord, Kingsport, and South Boston Speedways) 7 Top-3’s, 1 Top-5, and 2 Top 10’s.
Smith wrapped up the CARS Tour season this past weekend at Hickory Motor Speedway where he finished 5th in the 150 lap race and 3rd in points for the season behind 2015 Champion, Cole Timm, and runner-up Kyle Grissom. Out of 10 races he accomplished 1 win (Motor Mile), 1 Top-5 and 7 Top-10’s.
