Smith Looking for First SLM win of 2016
April 8th, 2015 | Mooresville, NC –
This weekend the Driver Development no.77 team and Zane Smith will race at the famed Fairgrounds Speedway in Nasvhille, TN for the first-time combined Southern Super Series (SSS) and the ARCA-CRA event. This will be Zane Smith’s first time racing at the 18* banked .596 paved oval.
Smith is looking for his first SLM win in 2016. With some tough breaks in the SLM car so far this season, the no. 77 team and Smith have come up short in a handful of races, after suffering late race flat tires, rear end issues and circumstances out of their control. Last Saturday at the CARS Tour event at Southern National Motorsports Park, Smith was getting ready to pass for the second place position with 10 to go, and he had a left rear tire go down. He went on to finish 19th. Smith and team are hoping to put the bad luck behind them, and look forward to heading to Victory Lane this weekend. Zane did win a PLM at New Smyrna Speedway in February. “There is no quit in this team. From Zane to everyone on our team they give 100% every week. We have experienced some tough breaks so far this season, and are looking to turn things around with a strong finish this weekend in Nashville” said Crew Chief Gary Crooks.
The format for the North South Super Late Model Challenge is as follows; teams registered with SSS or CRA on their entry forms. On Friday, teams will practice, qualify and each respective group will race a 50 lap race. Saturday, teams will again practice, qualify and the two series will run a combined 75 lap race. Points earned in each race will go to the driver in the series in which they registered.
Fridays schedule consists of two practice sessions, 1:00 – 2:00pm/cst and 2:30 – 3:30 pm/cst, qualifying at 5:30pm/cst, and SSS/CRA 50 lap features start at 7:00pm/cst. Saturdays schedule is practice from 1:05 – 1:40pm/cst, and the 75 lap Challenge Feature at 5:45pm/cst.
